Living in the country has been an adventure…to say the least. There are things about it that I love. There are things that I do not wish to experience. Today started out with the former and ended with the latter.
So I started out on my usual walk around the land. This is one of my most favorite things about living on our land. It was what made me fall in love with it in the beginning. There is something very peaceful and life-giving about walking around our property. If you’ve been here, you maybe know what I’m talking about. It was close to a year ago that I would enjoy long walks, dreaming of what was to come. But that is another story…
So I was enjoying a nice walk, enjoying the crisp, winter air, when out of my peripheral I spot deer. There were probably ten of them, leaping in our direction. You’ll notice the goofy dogs chasing after them, as if they were going to catch up with them!
I snapped a few pictures (luckily my camera was around my neck) and continued on my walk. And then I saw it. One of those little buggers got caught in the barb wire. She was a goner. I ran back home, called Brent and tried to collect all of our ‘delightful’ giants. Unfortunately I was not fast enough. Two of them enjoyed a snack before I could pry them away.
Not exactly what I call peaceful…but this is the circle of life…maybe. Anyway, for all you animal activists out there, we put the deer out of it’s misery (as fast as Brent could get home. I wasn’t about to do it! That is NOT what I signed up for!). And then I continued on my way. I photographed some nature graffiti for you. Isn’t it beautiful. That is more the kind of thing I enjoy encountering on my walks. Nice and tame.
